The Friends of Central Illinois Marines are sponsoring a poster contest for all students, high school age and younger, in Central Illinois with a $300.00 first place cash prize.
The theme of this poster contest is to be: “Our Marines — Back ‘em up with a Buck”.
The Friends of Central Illinois Marines has sent three satellite phones and air cards to our local Marines now deployed to Afghanistan.
Our “Back ‘em up with a Buck” poster will be used throughout Central Illinois to help in raising funds to replenish and renew the air cards (the air cards are $1.00/minute — hence the “buck”); as well as support Marines, Marine families and Marine veterans in Central Illinois.
In addition to the $300 cash prize, the winner will be present at a news conference Memorial Day Weekend as we announce the winner and begin our fundraising campaign.
General details of this contest are as follows:
1. Poster theme: Our Marines … Back ‘em up with a Buck.
2. All entries are to be on 8-1/2X11″ paper (no digital files accepted) and mailed to Friends of Central Illinois Marines, PO Box 14, Lacon IL 61540.
3. Contest deadline is May 18th.
4. Please do not use the Marine Corps emblem, as it is copyrighted. A stylized version is acceptable if the artist wishes to include it.
5. Entrants should include their name, age and school, and contact information.

After getting an ear-full from parents, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard today announced that Chicago elementary schools will shrink their original expanded schoolday to a 7-hour day next year and high schools will adopt a 7 1/2-hour day.
Emanuel wants to move Chicago from the shortest school day and year of any major city to a calendar aligned with national averages.
“By adopting a longer day and a longer year, we are working to shape the future of our children for the better and give them an education that matches up with their potential,” said Emanuel

According to the its route map and their Facebook page, Allegiant Air is set to announce nonstop service between Peoria and Punta Gorda (Fort Myers), Florida today. WMBD Channel 31 is reporting that flights operating Thursday and Sunday will begin June 28.

A man reported he was shot at by someone in a group of men who asked for his gang affiliation.
Steven Nunally, 23, of 3021 W. Trewyn, told police at about 6 p.m. Monday that he was walking across a vacant field across the street from him house when he noticed a group of 5-6 men standing next to a car. He recognized the driver as “T’ who used to live across the street from him.
One of the other males in the group asked him for his gang affiliation, and Nunally replied that he was unaffiliated.
He then heard several shoted fired. He took off running toward his house. He also heard one make tell another one to pick up the shell casings.
Police stopped a vehicle, but Nunally was unable to identify the driver.

A bartender was injured by a drunk patron he refused service to because he was making recist comments, who later showed up with a black make to show he wasn’t a racist.
Antonio M. Pagan, was serving drinks at Blue Bar, of 619 W. Main Street, at about 12:22 a.m. Monday, when he refused to serve a white male who was acting intoxicated. He also asked the customer to stop making racists comments.
Soon the customer left with a white female, only to return again with a black male, which he offered as proof that he wasn’t racist. Pagan again refused to serve him, at which point the customer lunged over the bar and grabbed Pagan by the collar. Bar employees grabbed the customer and pulled him off Pagan, at which point all three left the bar. Pagan suffered a scratch on his chest and his shirt was tirn Police searched the area, but did not find him.

A man told police that something struck his car while it was parked, but police think the car in motion when the car struck something else.
Denonrea R. Miller, of 535 Tracy, told police his 2005 Nissan Altima was struck while it was parked outside his home. Police looked at it and determined that the marks were consistent with the car being in motion.
Police were unable to complete a crash report because they could not write down where the incident occurred.

A man on the tresspass list as Lexington Hills Apartment has been waving around a gun, pointing it at residents, police reported.
Deketra L. McDaniel, 20, of 3430 Oakcrest, told polioce at about 8:26 p.m. Sunday that she was buying a couple of cigarettes from another resident when Lamont Stuckey, 2324 W. Proctor St., exited the apartment building and said “Bitches, I aint worried about shit 0ut here.”
He pulled a gun out of his waistband and pointed it at the two.
A witness, Parish C. Wright, 19, of 1524 S. Faraday, told police that Stuckey said “I will get any bitch to whoop your ass” and “I didn’t say shit to you, why you messing with me.” She recognized Stuckey as someone who has caused problems for residents before.
Police searched for Stucky, but did not find him. Officers determined that Stuckey is on the Lexington Hill’s trespass list. Police are now searching for Stuckey.

A Peoria woman is telling police that someone pulled a gun on her son, but all he will say is that “they bitches” when asked about the incident.
Peoria Police were called to speak to Ella M. Wilson, 44, of 1102 S. Blaine at about 8:29 p.m. Sunday. She told police she did not witness the incident, but that her son, Demarcus L. Adams, 27, of 607 NE Perry, was threatened with a gun.
Adams were extremely reluctant to talk to police, responding “they bitches” when asked about the incident.
Apparently, Dams got into a fight with Tyree Thomas, 22, at Club Apollo on Christman Eve. This Sunday, Adams and Daniel Spiller, 21, of 745 E. Nebraska, came into the yard on Blaine Street and demanded Adams get off the porch and fight them. Adams pulled a gun and pointed it at Adams.
Adams declined to prosecute, again asserting they were “bitches.”

(Chicago) — April 10, 2012. As part of a crackdown on traffickers who are trading child pornography online, Attorney General Lisa Madigan revealed on Friday that her office’s investigators have monitored 3,200 Illinois IP addresses trading child pornography in the last 120 days.
Madigan also announced on Friday that Sidney J. Davis III, 37, of Shiloh was arrested and charged with five counts of aggravated possession of child pornography, each a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years in prison.
Investigators from the Attorney General’s office made the arrest working with the Shiloh Police Department and the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office.
The Davis arrest marks the 29th of Operation Glass House, an initiative Madigan launched in August 2010 targeting child pornographers in Illinois. To track child pornographers online, investigators use the unique identifier that each computer is assigned, known as an Internet Protocol (IP) address.
