Illinois U.S. Congressmen: State’s debt unsustainable

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

SPRINGFIELD — Republican U.S. congressmen representing Illinois are weighing in on the state’s debt crisis, and a local think tank says the state could save money in health-care costs for retired public employees.

U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren, of District 14, and U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk on Wednesday released the “Illinois Debt Report.”

The state’s unpaid bills and unfunded obligations, they said, are unsustainable.

“Illinois cannot afford to continue on its current path,” Hultgren said in a news release. “And Washington will not bail the state out.”

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

A Pizza Hut delivery driver was robbed as he tried to make a delivery to the Greenbriar Apartments at 307 S. Sterling.

The driver told police he approached the dront door to the apartments, when a man standing at the door pulled a gun and said “Give it to me” and “all of it.”

The driver handed over all of his cash and the pizza.

Just then, two men approached, the took off when they saw the robbery taking place. The robber then apparently began chasing the witnesses.

Police searched the area with a K-9 but were able to locate the receipt. Police tried to call the number given by the robber, but they could not track the call to any apartment. The address given for the delivery belonged to the maintenance man.

Landlord pulls the plug on tenant

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

A woman reported problems with her landlord on Tuesday.

Elisha Cooper, 717 Wayne Street, told police that she received a verbal warning from her landlord, Andrea Randall, that she needed to vacate her residence within five days. This was five days ago, and today he came over and tried to force her to leave.

Police were called at the time and since Randall did not have any legal eviction paperwork, Cooper was allowed to stay.

Cooper left the house and when she returned, the main fuse to the residence has been pulled out, terminating electrical service to the home. Cooper suspects her landlord.
