Citizen journalism sites and links

Citizen journalists can draw inspiration from those who have gone before. Here are links to other sites, and to articles I have found that relate to community-based journalism and citizen journalism.

CyberJournalist operates two lists of citizen media sites:

This is a very good blog for learning about bias in the media.

For those looking for some reference and resource material, there is this:

Monetizing your blog.

  • Google Adsense — the big daddy of blog advertising. It’s got oppressive rules and payout is very slow.
  • Kachingle — kinda new, it’s about collecting cash from donors who contribute micropayments to multiple sites they like.
  • PayPal — lets you put a donation button on your site.
  • AdBrite – it has a wide variety of ad formats you can ad to your site, from simple test ads to full-page popups.
  • Text-Link-Ads — some of the ads can be stinkers, but it consistently pays me more than Google. Google will drop you or pay you far less if you use this and other link ads.

Here are some citizen journalism sites here in Illinois and elsewhere that bear watching:

And I’ve created posts of my own that discuss efforts of citizen to commit acts of journalism. I’ve made those posts here on the Blog Peoria main site and on my own citizen journalism site, Peoria Pundit.
